And they replaced price tags, so the consumer no longer knew what the price of an item was, unless he made a special trip to the checkout counter to have the barcode scanned; prices on shelves, if they were there at all were (and remain) frequently inaccurate.

Pretty soon well have a barcode on our foreheads.
