Are there truly "fossil fuels" or is oil abiotic? If you deplete a gold mine and return 5 years later…there still is no gold. But if you empty a drilled oil well, cap it off and return 5 years later…it is full of oil again. How can this be so? http://www.viewzone.com/abioticoilx.html

@ Elizabeth, maybe the oil well was never empty when capped, just uneconomical to get to the dregs under that current financial climate.

No, it is not created in 5 years. It forms the core of the earth's crust, and when a source has been depleted, it is simply refilled from the continuous pool of chemical constituents that make up the oil at the earth's crust. There is no such thing as "peak oil"…the earth has been here for an eternity, but life on earth has not!

The problem with looking things up on Wikipedia is that Wiki can only print what the Government allows it to print. Yes, there is much to learn on Wiki…as long as it is not contrary to Government approval. Try and find the Green Hilton Agreement of 1963…it's not on Wiki because it is contrary to the Government's official conclusion on how President Kennedy was killed.It doesn't match the Warren commission final report. Look and see how Osama bin Laden died…Official Government approval for Obama got Osama…but Osama bin Laden died in 2001. If fossil fuels and "peak oil" are discredited, there can be no manipulation of prices…and the whole operation in the Middle-East becomes suspect. If Sébastien Héon can figure out why we are building the Keystone Pipeline from Canada to the Gulf…and destroying the ecology of the Midwest, then perhaps he will understand why the article that I cited was undertaken in the first place!

Elizabeth Kazan I have no idea if we've reached peak oil or not, but it is easily shown that the concept of peak oil is correct. Unless you can extract in infinite amount at an infinite rate, there has to be a maximum rate at which you can extract it – a peak. Since the Earth is a finite size, the amount of oil is finite, even if it is being replenished.

LoL some scientist you are. No, there are FINITE reserves of petroleum in SELECT locations around the Earth's surface. These sources are located where decayed plant and animal matter from Jurassic and Triassic rift basins filled with organics and were quickly buried in anoxic conditions. Slow recharge to once gigantic reserves is possible, but the earth's crust is most certainly NOT fluid with oil. The same technology and scientists that created nuclear power and sent us to the moon tell us petroleum is finite. I admire your ability to convince yourself of reasurring nonsense, but we have Science Education and Progress to maintain a saner reality for the rest of us.

If it's made in the core of the planet then the constant creation of more means the hollowing out of the planet's core. The smart thing to do is to learn, as surface dwellers, to live on what is on the surface.
